YA Release Dates to Look Forward to

As you can probably guess, I read a lot of YA books, which by extension means I’m reading a lot of in-progress series at once.  But, I’ve made this helpful list for myself and for everyone else to keep track of some of the exciting new releases this year.

1.  The Enchantress by Michael Scott

Anyone that is a regular reader here knows that I love Michael Scott’s The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel series.  The Enchantress is the last book in this series and I’m really curious about how Michael Scott will end his series.  With more Elders being forced to take sides and immortals constantly switching sides, the final book is probably going to keep me reading into the early morning hours.  After years of waiting, The Enchantress is going to be released on May 22 of this year, according to Wikipedia.

2.  The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa

Vampires are way overdone in YA fiction, but Julie Kagawa’s latest book (which is set to be released in April) has managed to pique my interest.  She is an excellent writer and I’m very interested in seeing how she handles vampires.  In addition to The Immortal Rules, she has announced on her website that she will be releasing a new Iron Fey series starring Ethan Chase this fall.  I just finished the first Iron Fey series and I loved the ending, so I’m going to read this new series too.  Julie Kagawa is one of my favourite YA authors.

3.  The Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare

Okay, I admit I’m behind in Cassandra Clare’s new series.  This is mainly because the local library does not have any of her books and I wait until books are in paperback before buying them (generally speaking).  Call me cheap, but I’m on a budget here.  Anyway, I love Cassandra Clare’s writing and I’m eager to read this prequel to The Mortal Instruments.  According to Cassandra Clare’s website, its tentative release date is the ‘holiday season’ of this year.  Of course, this is subject to change.  In addition to The Clockwork Princess, Cassandra Clare is releasing City of Lost Souls on May 8 of this year.

4.  Bitterblue by Kristin Cashore

I am super excited for the third book in Kristin Cashore’s Seven Kingdoms series.  Graceling and Fire were both excellent and I am curious as to how Bitterblue will cope with being queen of Monsea.  Apparently characters from Graceling will appear in it and I hope to learn what became of Katsa and Po’s budding relationship.  Fortunately I won’t have to wait long because it is being released May 1, 2012.

5.  Goddess Interrupted by Aimée Carter

I just finished the first book, The Goddess Test (literally, I just finished it an hour ago) and I can’t wait for the sequel, Goddess Interrupted.  After such a great ending to the first book, I’m curious as to where Carter will take the story, but I won’t have to wait long.  According to her website, it will be released on March 27 of this year.
