The Mad Reviewer 1,000 Follower Giveaway

Well folks, it’s official!  I have reached the coveted 1,000 follower mark for my blog 2 1/2 years after starting it.  That’s hardly the fastest time to hit that particular milestone but I am proud of it simply because there are a lot of book blogs out there competing for a select audience of avid readers and authors.  It hasn’t always been easy and I’ll admit that there are times I’ve thought of quitting but then I realize how much I’d actually miss it.  It’s fun to have an outlet for my book nerdiness.

So as a way of saying thanks, I’m going to have a giveaway.  There are just two conditions:

1.  You must be a follower of my blog, whether through WordPress or email.  If you’re not already, you can click the follow button before entering.

2.  All you have to do is comment on this post, answering the question I present.  The winner will be selected randomly through a number generator by the order their comment was in.  (i.e. there are 25 comments and the random number generator selects 13 so whoever had the 13th comment wins.)

A $50 shopping spree on The Book Depository as long as they ship free to your country (most countries are included in their free shipping, but check before you enter!).

All you have to do is answer either (or both if you like) of the two questions below:

  1. What is your favourite book and why?  What is the thing you most enjoy about it?
  2. If you could pick any one historical, legendary or book character to talk with (ignoring language differences), who would it be?  Why?

Thank you guys so much for following me and have fun with the contest!

The winner will be announced on Saturday, August 30.

  1. Judy Thomas

My favorite book is Stephen King’s The Stand because I tend to re read it every year and I still can’t put it down each time.I love the characters and the story line, nothing beats the good vs evil angle.

  2. Lee Todd

I’d choose the Temptation series (Try and Take) by Ella Frank. They are, respectively my best read of 2013 (Try) and best read of 2014 (Take). Very sensual, erotic and hot!

  3. blessedmodisa

So far, my favourite book is Alex Rider series. Aside from being the first book series I’ve ever reeead..I enjoyed the adventure of a 15-year-old-student-turned-spy. It’s just so greaattt.

  4. Vickie Griffin Carter

My favorite book so for 2014 has been the Consequences Series by Aleatha Romig. Tony learned so much about what he did wrong after he was since to prison. He learned what it was like to have to serve others when he had to work in the kitchen, put in laundry and had to change bed clothes for others. Work in the office and found it he wasn’t in charge and couldn’t tell others what to do. Most importantly he learned what it was like to be held captive in a prison and how Claire must have felt when she was wrongfully sent. I received this through my email. But I follow through WordPress.

Those are such tough questions! I’ll skip the first one because I can’t just pick one favourite and this comment would become a rant about at least ten books! haha So, to answer to question number 2, I think I would choose to talk to Oscar Wilde, I think he would always have something interesting to say and I would just love to listen to him talk all day! haha
Thanks for the giveaway and congratulations on reaching 1000 followers! 🙂

  6. Tammy Sparks

Awesome giveaway, Carrie! I’m a follower who mostly “lurks” (meaning I don’t always comment) but I do enjoy your blog. My favorite book (s) of all time are Stephen King’s Dark Tower series. It’s hard to separate them so I’m cheating and naming all 7 as my faves. They are his best work, most beautifully written and most emotional. Thanks for the giveaway and congrats on 1000 followers!

Congrats, Carrie. Your blog is wonderful! If my name gets randomly selected, please award the commenter 2 below me :-).
    1. My favorite book is Pride and Prejudice. I love the social commentary and see its relevance today.
    2. I’d like to talk to Kafka. His insights were both relevant but also privileged.

  8. Diantha Jones (@DianthaJones)

Congrats Carrie! You know I love your blog so, WOOT WOOT! to you!
    1) Yeah right. No such thing.
    2) Blade from the Queen’s Blade series. This series isn’t super well known but damn if it isn’t one of my favorite series! Blade was a eunuch assassin as I LOVED him. I’d just want one conversation, though he would probably avoid all of my freaking questions because Blade never did anything he didn’t want to do.

First congrats on your 1000 followers!!!

Second, My favorite book is the Count of Monte Cristo. I think it is one of the best written books in the world. I would want to talk to the Count of course :)… his story of betrayal, revenge, and redemption is powerful and teaches many beneficial life lessons. I think a more in-depth understanding of his journey would solidify the lessons that were learned in the book.

Lastly, thanks for the great giveaway 🙂

    Hi! thanks for the chance!
My favorite book is Eleanor & Park because I think it is one of the most beautiful love stories, and told in the sweetest way. I have come to feel the same as the characters while reading and I have grown very fond of them … because it shows that despite the pain love can make us feel a little better 🙂

  11. Estefi

My favorite book is The fault in our stars , because the story has touched my heart like no other … I have no words to say everything that has led me to read it .. it’s just one of those stories you leave a mark forever, and that despite having a sad side I always remember as the best .. because the author tells a story about life and love …
Congrats for the 1000 followers!!! and thanks for the giveaway 😀

  12. Zen A.

Congrats on your 1000 followers! 😀

It’s difficult to choose a singular favourite book, so I will name a recent one. The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson, book #2 in the Mistborn trilogy. They usually say the second book is always bound to be afflicted by the Second Book Syndrome, but not this one. It was almost as good as the first, the tension was high, every twist unexpected… it had me racing to the finish line and then reeling from the exhilaration and shock of it all. Reading the third book now and I will be so sad to see it go! 🙁

  13. piroska

    Congratulations! 1,000 followers–WOW.
My favourite book was Stephen King’s “Insomnia”. Why? Because it’s like…1,300+ pages, and…well…it’s great for insomniacs! Plus–I just love (most) Stephen King books. :o)

  14. stephaniesbookreviews

It’s hard to pick just one, but my favorite book is probably Attachments by Rainbow Rowell. I loved the writing style and at the time I first read it I really identified with Lincoln. Congrats on your 1000 followers!

  15. Lori Hopkins

I have many books that I love, but since you asked for one, I will pick A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens. The reason I love it so is because it is about a man making the ultimate sacrifice for the woman he loves. It is heartbreaking and I cry every time I read it!

  16. charliegirlteachergirl

My favorite book is Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. The history and the setting draw me in, and the way she tells this story about Jamie and Claire, how their love grows despite being from two different centuries, amazes me. I enjoy the playful banter between Claire and Jamie, and the serious moments they have that pull them together as a couple.

And I don’t think I could pick only one historical/legendary/character to talk with. I’d want to pick more than one.
