Book Tour Poll Results

A few days ago I asked you guys whether or not you did blog tours for books and if you did, how often.  The results were actually pretty surprising.

The most popular answer was “Yes, around 2-5 per month” at 43%.  I expected the second-most popular answer to be the 1-2 per month answer but instead it was a tie between 5-10 per month and only one every few months or so.  That’s a pretty fair spread in answers but it does make sense.  Some people sign up for tour sites and do book tours constantly while others only do tours for books or authors they really, really love and want to read their books early.  That was actually one of the main reasons I joined certain tour sites that I hardly ever tour with anymore.  I only really signed up for Xpresso book tours because they have the occasional big name author that I love.  Masquerade Tours is definitely my go-to place for discovering new indie books, though.

So basically, most of my respondents did around 2-5 tours per month (which can be book blasts, book reviews, interviews, guest posts, etc.) while the rest were pretty spread out in the frequency spectrum.

What do you guys think?  If you’re a book blogger, do you participate in tours fairly often or only rarely?  What are the most common types of tour posts for you?

Poll: Do you do Book Tours?

For some bloggers, book tours are all they seem to do on their blogs.  Others never host book tours.  But at the end of the day, most bloggers seem to find a happy medium between the two.  As you guys have noticed over the years, I’m affiliated with a couple of tour companies but only really participate in a few blog tours a month, sometimes even less.  It really depends on what else I’m posting as well as how interested I am in a particular book or author.

And as always, if you have any additional thoughts or opinions please leave them in the comments section below.

The Week Ahead (#9)

My post is a little late because things have been hectic here but I’m a subscriber to the belief things are better late than never.

Monday

The Collector of Dying Breaths by M. J. Rose

A review of The Collector of Dying Breaths by M. J. Rose.  I read this one several months ago but signed up for a spot later in the blog tour so I couldn’t review it until now.  I’m excited to finally see my review go live!

Tuesday

Intrinsical by Lani Woodland

A review of Intrinsical by Lani Woodland.  This is also a blog tour book but I didn’t have nearly as much of a lead time with this one.

Wednesday

Mistress of the Wind by Michelle Diener

A review of Mistress of the Wind by Michelle Diener.  I won this one in a giveaway and I loved Michelle Diener’s other books so I could really see no downside to reading this one.

Thursday

The Sekhmet Bed by L. M. Ironside

  • A review of The Sekhmet Bed by L. M. Ironside.  This was recommended to me by a friend when it was free on Amazon for a little while so I decided to check it out.  Not much literature is devoted to Hatshepsut and even less is devoted to her mother Ahmose, so how could I resist?

Friday

  • Book Blast: Puritan Witch: The REdemption of Rebecca Eames by Peni Jo Renner
  • Book Blast: Duchess by Nicolette Andrews

Saturday

  • Discussion: The Next Supernatural Creature Fad

The Week Ahead (#3)

Last week was pretty sparse reviews-wise but this week I’m planning my regular 4 reviews per week, which will bring the review count up to 499.  That means that next Monday (the 14th) will be a very special review for review #500.

Angeline by Karleen BradfordMonday

  • A review of Angeline by Karleen Bradford.  I vaguely remember reading this and liking it several years ago so when I saw it at the local library I couldn’t pass it up.  Is it as good as I remember it was?  Probably not, but it’s still nice to dive into your childhood favourites with a new perspective.

The Recruit by Fiona PalmerTuesday

  • A review of The Recruit by Fiona Palmer.  I was approached by a publisher to read this book and although contemporary YA really isn’t my thing I decided to give it a try.  So far, so good.  It has a lot of potential and I’m anxious to see how the story turns out.

Wednesday

Blades of Magic by Terah EdunA review of Blades of Magic by Terah Edun.  If you’ll remember, I loved Terah Edun’s debut series so I’m very eager to get started on this spin-off prequel series.  It will be interesting to see what really happened during the Initiate Wars whose aftereffects cause Ciardis much grief in the Courtlight series.  Apparently this one is going to be a trilogy, so there’s lots to look forward to from Terah Edun in the coming year!

The Secret Eleanor by Cecelia HollandThursday

A review of The Secret Eleanor by Cecelia Holland.  This one has been on my TBR pile for months and I’ve finally decided to get off my butt and work through the pile.  I’m not very familiar with Eleanor of Aquitaine but from what little I’ve read I can guarantee that if nothing else, The Secret Eleanor will be a very interesting story!

Friday

  • Book Blast: The Towers of Tuscany by Carol M. Cram

Saturday

  •  Discussion: Re-reading Childhood Favourites.  Are you like me and re-read some of your favourite books from when you were a child?  Or do you tend to avoid doing that out of the fear of learning they really weren’t all that good to begin with?

The Week Ahead (#1)

Yes, this is a new regular feature I’m hoping to do.  As a blogger I feel I need some consistency to my Sundays, which are generally my lazy days where I don’t post until noon or later.  So maybe this will help a little bit.

***

This week is going to be a good one with lots of reviews, seeing as I’m not participating in any promo-only blog tours.  Oddly enough I actually did an interview and I’m hoping to do more interviews in general in the future.  I personally like interviews but I’ve let myself slack off and haven’t been asking for them.

Enough rambling.  Here’s what you can expect from me this week:

Monday

  • An interview with John Heldt, who just finished The Northwest Passage series, his debut series about time-travel.
  • A very special cover reveal!  This cover is actually a revamp of the original cover and having read the book and loved it I can’t decide which one I like better now.

Tuesday

  • A review of Andromeda’s Fall by Abigail Owens for the blog tour.  I’m very excited about this review because this was the first book I’ve read that featured animal shapeshifters.  I was more than a little skeptical about initially signing up for the blog tour so we’ll see if my skepticism was warranted or not.

The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa

Wednesday

  • A review of The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa.  I’ve been re-reading the previous two books in the series to prepare for the last book in the trilogy and I’m nervous about how Julie Kagawa is going to wrap up such a complicated trilogy.  Since it takes place in what really is a Crapsack World it’s going to be hard to come to a satisfying conclusion.

In a Treacherous Court by Michelle Diener

Thursday

  • A review of In a Treacherous Court by Michelle Diener.  This one I requested from the author and it just arrived in the mail yesterday!  I do love the Tudor period so I’m anxious to start this one.

The Wise Woman's Tale

Friday

  • A review of The Wise Woman’s Tale by Phillipa Bowers.  This book received quite a bit of hype when it first released and I found it in the used section of my bookstore so I figured why not give it a try.

Saturday

  • Discussion: Being Open About Blogging Statistics.  Considering I’m quite open about my statistics, this should be an interesting discussion!
