Poll: What is your favourite genre?

This is pretty self-explanatory: What is your favourite genre?  For this poll, you can only choose one!  And if you feel like it, why did you choose that particular genre (i.e. Why is it your favourite?)?  Let us know in the comments below!

Poll: What is your biggest book dealbreaker?

We all have dealbreakers for books, as we do with most things in our lives.  One of the biggest dealbreakers for me (one of the only things that will actually make me put a book down) is poor grammar and spelling.  I get that a lot because I read a lot of self-published works but I have to remind myself that self-publishing is no excuse for multiple editing slip ups.  I’m talking about run-on sentences, no commas, basic grammar errors, etc.  I don’t mind one or two words that have minor misspellings because even professionally published books have those on occasion.  But when it’s one or two per page?  That, my friends, is a dealbreaker.  So what are your dealbreakers for books?

Poll: How do you prefer to shop for books?

One of the interesting things I’ve found since online shopping became popular is that many people still want to browse in physical stores.  There’s a huge difference between seeing a few pictures and reading a product description and actually physically examining an object that’s in front of you.  This is particularly true when it comes to books, I’ve found.

Although I do order books online from time to time, they’re usually sequels or other books in a series by an author that I know.  If I’m looking for a good new read, I often want to go to a physical bookstore.  I love browsing up and down the aisles, pulling out books, talking to staff and fellow book lovers about books.  No matter how much companies like Amazon try to make online shopping like that, it will never be a substitute for me.  Actually being in a bookstore is definitely my preferred method of shopping.

Of course, I’m in a different situation from a lot of book bloggers because I don’t actually buy ebooks.  I get so many ebooks through NetGalley and directly from authors that I’ve never really felt the need to browse through the ebook sections of online retailers.  I know that that’s certainly not the case for many authors and bloggers out there.

So how do you prefer to shop for books?  (I know it’s not as simple as choosing online or in person but if you absolutely had to choose one method to shop for books, what would it be?)

Poll: Do you use an affiliate link program?

Recently I joined both the Amazon Affiliate Program and the Powell’s Affiliate Program.  Basically, I go to my dashboard on both sites, search out the book I want to link to and put their special code in the link.  So if someone uses my link to go buy that book or any other product on the site within a certain timeframe, I get a small percentage of that (usually around 4-7%).  Some people don’t use affiliate programs because they don’t like how long it takes to make the link but I figure that since I’m linking to these sites anyway, I might as well get paid a little bit.  It’s only a few extra minutes on top of the 30-45 minutes I spend on the review itself so it’s no skin off my nose.

But what I want to know is this: if you’re a blogger, do you use an affiliate link program?

And most importantly, why or why not?  Let us know in the comments!

Poll: What kind of eReader do you own?

It seems like now almost every book blogger and/or author owns an ereader.  People like me own an ereader for convenience as a book blogger but still prefer paperbacks.  Others have almost exclusively switched to ebooks.  However you like to read, it doesn’t really matter.  What I’m curious about is this: what kind of ereader do you own?

If you do own an ereader, let us know what kind in the comments as well!  Are you happy with it?  Would you buy another one from that particular brand or would you try to switch over to a different kind?  (i.e. from a Kindle to a Kobo or would you try one of the less popular ones like a PocketBook?)
