The Week Ahead (#11)
It’s been a heck of a week and since I just got finished watching today’s Game of Thrones episode I remembered that I should probably post today. So here’s what’s happening this week:
Monday
- A review of The Runaway Highlander by R. L. Syme. This is not what I’d normally read but I’ve been feeling in an adventurous mood lately.
Tuesday
- A review of The False Princess by Eilis O’Neal. I saw this one in the library one day and it looked pretty good so I checked it out. Hey, it was free and there’s usually not that many books I haven’t read in the local library.
Wednesday
- A review of If I Stay by Gayle Forman. Yep, I’m tackling yet another popular novel. This one I borrowed from the library as well on a whim and I figured I’d see what all of the fuss is about. Books rarely live up to the hype but maybe this one will be the exception.
Thursday
- A review of Stork by Wendy Delsol. I tried reading this last week but a friend of mine snatched it out of my hands and started reading it instead (we often do this to each other, so it’s okay). Now I finally have it back and have to read it in self-defense so she can talk to me about it without totally spoiling everything.
Friday
- Book Blast: Murder by Misrule by Anna Castle
- Book Blast: Paradise Coast by Renee Novelle
Saturday
- The Mad Review Reading Challenge Halfway Check-In.
The Week Ahead (#7)
Last week was pretty sparse reviews-wise in part because of that awesome guest post by Don Maker. However, that left me plenty of time to read so this week is going to be review heavy.
Monday
- A review of Fire and Sword by Louise Turner. I chose to review this for the blog tour and although it took me forever to finish it I enjoyed it thoroughly. Scottish history is really not my strong point but I can confidently say that I learned something by reading this book!
Tuesday
- A review of In Defense of the Queen by Michelle Diener. I actually finished this book ages ago but I was so tightly scheduled in April that I couldn’t fit it in until now. This is the third book in the Susanna Horenbout and John Parker series and after the cliffhanger of the second book I was very, very eager to start reading this one.
Wednesday
- A review of Mine to Spell by Janeal Falor. I loved the first book in this series, You Are Mine so when I heard Janeal Falor was sending out ARCs for the second book I snapped one up right away. Cynthia is very different from Serena, the first book’s protagonist and at this point I really can’t say who I like more! They’re both good.
Thursday
- A review of Shattered Secrets by Krystal Wade. Way back when I started blogging I reviews Krystal Wade’s debut trilogy and loved it. So how could I resist starting on her latest series? My only worry was if it would live up to Wilde’s Fire.
Friday
- A review of The Curse by Jennifer Brassel. This one was a guilty pleasure read that I requested on NetGalley. I mean how could I resist ancient Egypt, romance and a little bit of mystery?
Saturday
- Discussion: Violence in Literature. How much is too much?
The Week Ahead (#3)
Last week was pretty sparse reviews-wise but this week I’m planning my regular 4 reviews per week, which will bring the review count up to 499. That means that next Monday (the 14th) will be a very special review for review #500.
- A review of Angeline by Karleen Bradford. I vaguely remember reading this and liking it several years ago so when I saw it at the local library I couldn’t pass it up. Is it as good as I remember it was? Probably not, but it’s still nice to dive into your childhood favourites with a new perspective.
- A review of The Recruit by Fiona Palmer. I was approached by a publisher to read this book and although contemporary YA really isn’t my thing I decided to give it a try. So far, so good. It has a lot of potential and I’m anxious to see how the story turns out.
Wednesday
A review of Blades of Magic by Terah Edun. If you’ll remember, I loved Terah Edun’s debut series so I’m very eager to get started on this spin-off prequel series. It will be interesting to see what really happened during the Initiate Wars whose aftereffects cause Ciardis much grief in the Courtlight series. Apparently this one is going to be a trilogy, so there’s lots to look forward to from Terah Edun in the coming year!
A review of The Secret Eleanor by Cecelia Holland. This one has been on my TBR pile for months and I’ve finally decided to get off my butt and work through the pile. I’m not very familiar with Eleanor of Aquitaine but from what little I’ve read I can guarantee that if nothing else, The Secret Eleanor will be a very interesting story!
Friday
- Book Blast: The Towers of Tuscany by Carol M. Cram
Saturday
- Discussion: Re-reading Childhood Favourites. Are you like me and re-read some of your favourite books from when you were a child? Or do you tend to avoid doing that out of the fear of learning they really weren’t all that good to begin with?
The Week Ahead (#2)
This week is going to be pretty sparse reviews-wise (only 3) but there’s going to be an article and some book blasts with giveaways to make up for it!
Monday
- A review of Crystal Deception by Doug J. Cooper. Normally I wouldn’t have picked up a book like this but Masquerade Tours was doing a tour for it so I figured I had nothing to lose. Artificial intelligence, an alien conspiracy and some kick-butt protagonists sure made this book sound interesting and I found myself enjoying the story once I got going. But did Doug J. Cooper manage to end things well? We’ll see!
Tuesday
- Since Tuesday will be April 1, my latest installment of The Best and Worst of…series will be coming out. March has been an interesting month and we could definitely see some previous stats records being broken!
- I’ll also be doing a release-day book blast for Honor Among Orcs by Amalia Dillin.
Wednesday
- A review of A Girl Named Disaster by Nancy Farmer. I recall reading this one several years ago and liking it so I figured I’d pick it up again to see if I still think it’s good. I normally wouldn’t have attempted re-reading a book I read so long ago, but I actually saw it in the local library so I decided to see if my first impression of the book was accurate.
Thursday
- A review of Words Once Spoken by Carly Drake. I requested this from the Australian publisher Escape Publishing because the heroine sounded like she could kick some serious butt. It also sounded like Carly Drake had an interesting take on the whole faery world thing so I really had nothing to lose in requesting it.
Friday
- Book Blast: Inscription by H. H. Miller.
- Book Blast: Blades of Magic by Terah Edun.
- Book Blast: Crystal Deception by Doug J. Cooper (and a giveaway!)
Saturday
- Saturday is very special because I’m doing a cover reveal for Sworn to Defiance, the last book in Terah Edun’s amazing Courtlight series! It comes out in late April.
- Discussion: ARCs. If you’re a book blogger, are you all that concerned about ARCs? If you’re an author, do you feel sending out ARCs is beneficial in terms of marketing, getting some feedback, etc?
The Week Ahead (#1)
Yes, this is a new regular feature I’m hoping to do. As a blogger I feel I need some consistency to my Sundays, which are generally my lazy days where I don’t post until noon or later. So maybe this will help a little bit.

This week is going to be a good one with lots of reviews, seeing as I’m not participating in any promo-only blog tours. Oddly enough I actually did an interview and I’m hoping to do more interviews in general in the future. I personally like interviews but I’ve let myself slack off and haven’t been asking for them.
Enough rambling. Here’s what you can expect from me this week:
Monday
- An interview with John Heldt, who just finished The Northwest Passage series, his debut series about time-travel.
- A very special cover reveal! This cover is actually a revamp of the original cover and having read the book and loved it I can’t decide which one I like better now.
Tuesday
- A review of Andromeda’s Fall by Abigail Owens for the blog tour. I’m very excited about this review because this was the first book I’ve read that featured animal shapeshifters. I was more than a little skeptical about initially signing up for the blog tour so we’ll see if my skepticism was warranted or not.
Wednesday
- A review of The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa. I’ve been re-reading the previous two books in the series to prepare for the last book in the trilogy and I’m nervous about how Julie Kagawa is going to wrap up such a complicated trilogy. Since it takes place in what really is a Crapsack World it’s going to be hard to come to a satisfying conclusion.
Thursday
- A review of In a Treacherous Court by Michelle Diener. This one I requested from the author and it just arrived in the mail yesterday! I do love the Tudor period so I’m anxious to start this one.
Friday
- A review of The Wise Woman’s Tale by Phillipa Bowers. This book received quite a bit of hype when it first released and I found it in the used section of my bookstore so I figured why not give it a try.
Saturday
- Discussion: Being Open About Blogging Statistics. Considering I’m quite open about my statistics, this should be an interesting discussion!
