The 2014 Mad Reviewer Reading Challenge Has Begun!
(The draw for the 2013 prizes will be held on January 4 so if you’ve finished the 2013 challenge please let me know.)
Yes folks, The Mad Reviewer Reading & Reviewing Challenge has begun for 2014! All your reviews from now until December 31 count toward your goal. If you need a reminder of the rules click here. Just remember that if you signed up but didn’t provide a link in either your profile or your comment you aren’t officially signed up. Please contact me with a link as soon as possible!
And if you haven’t signed up for the challenge but would like to please read the rules in the link above and comment on either that post or this one! You can join anytime in 2014 and can count any reviews you’ve already done for the year toward your goal.
Below are some of the awesome book bloggers that have decided to join the challenge this year. Anyone who is a returning participant is indicated with (R) beside their name.
One Month to go in The Mad Reviewer Reading Challenge!
Yes, it’s November 30th and almost the end of another year. My second blogging anniversary is coming up in January, but more importantly my reading and reviewing challenge will be coming to an end at 11:59pm on December 30th. I’m hoping to announce winners the very next day, but it may be a couple days afterward as I collect the names and enter them into my draw.
So I’m basically finished. I’m going to review a few long books (Cleopatra’s Memoirs, 11/22/63, etc.) and then add any of the long books I didn’t count from the rest of this year. I’ve read and reviewed far more than 104 books this year and although I won’t reach my 500 review goal I’m pretty happy with how this blog has been running.
My question for you guys now is: If you’re participating in the challenge, do you think you’re going to finish? What level are you finishing? Will you try again next year?
And if you’re not involved in the challenge, read all about it here and tell me this: would you like to participate in the 2014 version? Why or why not?
The Mad Reviewer Challenge Check In #2
Yes folks, it’s the end of August which means there are only four more months left to finish The Mad Reviewer Reading & Reviewing Challenge. We’re already two thirds of the way through 2013 if you can believe it. I know I can’t.
As some of my regular readers may have noticed, my progress bar has not moved at all in weeks. Obviously from my reviews this is not because I haven’t been reading but rather because I want to be a little more selective in the books I”m counting toward my challenge. I want to be able to say that I read and reviewed 1000+ page novels for my challenge rather than count books that are only 100-200 pages. As someone who reads a lot, I have the luxury of doing this.
So what I’m curious about is this: if you’re participating, where are you in my challenge? Have you finished yet? Are you thinking of upgrading? Would you be interested in participating in my reading and reviewing challenge next year?
The Mad Reviewer Challenge Check in
Since it’s Sunday and I’m far too tired/lazy to write a very deep or thoughtful post at the moment, I thought it would be a great time for a challenge check in. If you’re participating in The Mad Reviewer Reading/Reviewing Challenge, how far are you? 25%, 50%, finished? Since it’s almost June, the halfway point, you should probably be around 50%, give or take a few percentage points. Assuming you’re pacing yourself and not procrastinating until you begin a reading frenzy in December. If you’re not participating, there’s still time to join if you want to go for one of the lower levels (click here for more info).
As you guys can see from my progress bar, I’ve read and reviewed 65 books toward my goal of 104 books, making me roughly 63% done. No, I’m not counting the short stories or novellas I’ve reviewed since I know I’ll be reading and reviewing far more than 104 books this year. I can afford to be a little more picky, which is why I’m also keeping track of how many pages I’ll be reading for the challenge. (Thanks to Caleb Flanagan of 20four12 for that idea!)
So how’s the challenge going for you? If you’re not participating, how’s your reading/reviewing in general going this year?
The Mad Reviewer Reading Challenge Has Begun
UPDATE: The lovely Ms. Diantha Jones designed this button for me, which you can all paste on your blogs as part of the challenge if you like. Just please link the picture to my first challenge post here.
Well it’s January 1, 2013 and so my reading challenge has now started. In case you missed it, I figured out how I’m going to do the draw.
1. Mad Reviewer: 104 books in one year (4 entries)
2. Crazy Reviewer: 52 books in one year (3 entries)
3. Slightly Sane Reviewer: 26 books in one year (2 entries)
4. Sane Reviewer: 12 books in one year (1 entry)
I am still figuring out the exact prize, which will likely be larger than I first thought because Mark Lee of The Masquerade Crew is once again helping me out by pooling our resources. That’s really all I can say right now, but just know that the prize is likely more than just one free book.
I forgot to mention that if you’re new here and want to join the challenge, be my guest! Anyone can join between now and the deadline (11:59pm Central Time December 31, 2013). Anyone who reaches their first goal can upgrade and head on to the next level or if they don’t reach their high goal, will have the number rounded off to the next lowest level. Continue reading
