The Week Ahead (#5)

Last week saw my stats go down in general, but at least my comments have remained consistent.  Outside of blogging I’ve been contemplating a new blogging business venture to help pay for my book habit and I’m actually pretty excited about launching it in the fall.  I’ll announce my plan closer to the date, but I think you guys will like it better than my proposed donating option.  Anyway…what am I doing this week besides dropping cryptic clues to torture you?

Monday

  • An article called ‘Writing Pitfalls: Dialogue’.  This article is the first in a planned ten part series designed to help authors with their writing, whether they’re just starting out or already have a few books under their belts.

Tuesday

Keeper of the King's Secrets by Michelle Diener

  • A review of Keeper of the King’s Secrets by Michelle Diener.  This is the sequel to the first book, In a Treacherous Court and I’m very excited to see how Michelle Diener’s writing has improved.

Wednesday

Roma by Steven Saylor

  • A review of Roma by Steven Saylor.  I was rather reluctant to start reading Roma but I’m about halfway through it at the time of writing this and so far it’s pretty good.  Sometimes there’s more showing than telling but Steven Saylor is a good storyteller.

Thursday

Evermore by Alyson Noel

  • A review of Evermore by Alyson Noel.  I’ve heard so much about this one and it’s been on my TBR pile for so long that I finally gave in and started reading it.  What have I got to lose?

Friday

  • Book Blast: 1066: What Fates Impose by G. K. Holloway
  • Book Blast: Destruction by Sharon Bayliss

Saturday

  • Discussion: Beta Reading.  If you’re a book blogger or author have you ever been a beta reader?  If so, how was it?  If not, would you ever consider being a beta reader?

The Week Ahead (#3)

Last week was pretty sparse reviews-wise but this week I’m planning my regular 4 reviews per week, which will bring the review count up to 499.  That means that next Monday (the 14th) will be a very special review for review #500.

Angeline by Karleen BradfordMonday

  • A review of Angeline by Karleen Bradford.  I vaguely remember reading this and liking it several years ago so when I saw it at the local library I couldn’t pass it up.  Is it as good as I remember it was?  Probably not, but it’s still nice to dive into your childhood favourites with a new perspective.

The Recruit by Fiona PalmerTuesday

  • A review of The Recruit by Fiona Palmer.  I was approached by a publisher to read this book and although contemporary YA really isn’t my thing I decided to give it a try.  So far, so good.  It has a lot of potential and I’m anxious to see how the story turns out.

Wednesday

Blades of Magic by Terah EdunA review of Blades of Magic by Terah Edun.  If you’ll remember, I loved Terah Edun’s debut series so I’m very eager to get started on this spin-off prequel series.  It will be interesting to see what really happened during the Initiate Wars whose aftereffects cause Ciardis much grief in the Courtlight series.  Apparently this one is going to be a trilogy, so there’s lots to look forward to from Terah Edun in the coming year!

The Secret Eleanor by Cecelia HollandThursday

A review of The Secret Eleanor by Cecelia Holland.  This one has been on my TBR pile for months and I’ve finally decided to get off my butt and work through the pile.  I’m not very familiar with Eleanor of Aquitaine but from what little I’ve read I can guarantee that if nothing else, The Secret Eleanor will be a very interesting story!

Friday

  • Book Blast: The Towers of Tuscany by Carol M. Cram

Saturday

  •  Discussion: Re-reading Childhood Favourites.  Are you like me and re-read some of your favourite books from when you were a child?  Or do you tend to avoid doing that out of the fear of learning they really weren’t all that good to begin with?

The Week Ahead (#2)

This week is going to be pretty sparse reviews-wise (only 3) but there’s going to be an article and some book blasts with giveaways to make up for it!

Monday

Crystal Deception by Doug J. Cooper

  • A review of Crystal Deception by Doug J. Cooper.  Normally I wouldn’t have picked up a book like this but Masquerade Tours was doing a tour for it so I figured I had nothing to lose.  Artificial intelligence, an alien conspiracy and some kick-butt protagonists sure made this book sound interesting and I found myself enjoying the story once I got going.  But did Doug J. Cooper manage to end things well?  We’ll see!

Tuesday

  • Since Tuesday will be April 1, my latest installment of The Best and Worst of…series will be coming out.  March has been an interesting month and we could definitely see some previous stats records being broken!
  • I’ll also be doing a release-day book blast for Honor Among Orcs by Amalia Dillin.

Wednesday

A Girl Named Disaster

  • A review of A Girl Named Disaster by Nancy Farmer.  I recall reading this one several years ago and liking it so I figured I’d pick it up again to see if I still think it’s good.  I normally wouldn’t have attempted re-reading a book I read so long ago, but I actually saw it in the local library so I decided to see if my first impression of the book was accurate.

Thursday

Words Once Spoken by Carly Drake

  • A review of Words Once Spoken by Carly Drake.  I requested this from the Australian publisher Escape Publishing because the heroine sounded like she could kick some serious butt.  It also sounded like Carly Drake had an interesting take on the whole faery world thing so I really had nothing to lose in requesting it.

Friday

  • Book Blast: Inscription by H. H. Miller.
  • Book Blast: Blades of Magic by Terah Edun.
  • Book Blast: Crystal Deception by Doug J. Cooper (and a giveaway!)

Saturday

  • Saturday is very special because I’m doing a cover reveal for Sworn to Defiance, the last book in Terah Edun’s amazing Courtlight series!  It comes out in late April.
  • Discussion: ARCs.  If you’re a book blogger, are you all that concerned about ARCs?  If you’re an author, do you feel sending out ARCs is beneficial in terms of marketing, getting some feedback, etc?

The Week Ahead (#1)

Yes, this is a new regular feature I’m hoping to do.  As a blogger I feel I need some consistency to my Sundays, which are generally my lazy days where I don’t post until noon or later.  So maybe this will help a little bit.

This week is going to be a good one with lots of reviews, seeing as I’m not participating in any promo-only blog tours.  Oddly enough I actually did an interview and I’m hoping to do more interviews in general in the future.  I personally like interviews but I’ve let myself slack off and haven’t been asking for them.

Enough rambling.  Here’s what you can expect from me this week:

Monday

  • An interview with John Heldt, who just finished The Northwest Passage series, his debut series about time-travel.
  • A very special cover reveal!  This cover is actually a revamp of the original cover and having read the book and loved it I can’t decide which one I like better now.

Tuesday

  • A review of Andromeda’s Fall by Abigail Owens for the blog tour.  I’m very excited about this review because this was the first book I’ve read that featured animal shapeshifters.  I was more than a little skeptical about initially signing up for the blog tour so we’ll see if my skepticism was warranted or not.

The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa

Wednesday

  • A review of The Forever Song by Julie Kagawa.  I’ve been re-reading the previous two books in the series to prepare for the last book in the trilogy and I’m nervous about how Julie Kagawa is going to wrap up such a complicated trilogy.  Since it takes place in what really is a Crapsack World it’s going to be hard to come to a satisfying conclusion.

In a Treacherous Court by Michelle Diener

Thursday

  • A review of In a Treacherous Court by Michelle Diener.  This one I requested from the author and it just arrived in the mail yesterday!  I do love the Tudor period so I’m anxious to start this one.

The Wise Woman's Tale

Friday

  • A review of The Wise Woman’s Tale by Phillipa Bowers.  This book received quite a bit of hype when it first released and I found it in the used section of my bookstore so I figured why not give it a try.

Saturday

  • Discussion: Being Open About Blogging Statistics.  Considering I’m quite open about my statistics, this should be an interesting discussion!
